Review: Risk factor assessment of erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is a distressing condition that may result from organic or psychological causes. Organic ED results from neurological, hormonal or vascular pathologies, and may also have drug-related causes. Cardiovascular disease and diabetes are the most common vascular risk factors. Due to a reluctance of patients to mention ED, healthcare professionals should discuss sexual dysfunction with patients who have increased risk of ED. This article considers underlying aetiologies and outlines treatment options.
