Auditing values in diabetes care can potentially give the wrong impression. Using a single value such as percentage of patients with a blood pressure 140/80 mmHg does not reflect what is happening in the practice as a whole. There is a risk that patients who will never achieve such targets will be viewed with less enthusiasm than they should by their primary care team members. This article describes a simple method of auditing diabetes values that includes all diabetes patients and is helpful when comparing year on year progress.
