Harry Ken
CBE Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Thomas Guy House, KCL Guys Hospital, London, SE1 9RT, harrykeen{at}compuserve.com
The diabetes community awaits, with a mixture of suspended expectation and cautious enthusiasm, the report, recommendations and, most crucially, the implementation of the Department of Health's National Service Framework for Diabetes. With the full report due to appear this summer, implementation in England and Wales is scheduled to start in April 2002. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own Diabetes Frameworks in preparation, in the former case drawing heavily on the results of the substantial and very productive Scottish investment in the St Vincent Declaration initiative of the last decade.
