iabetes mellitus increases the risk of acute coronary events and is similar to that of people without diabetes who have experienced a myocardial infarction (MI). Left ventricular failure is a major contributor to the excess mortality observed in diabetic MI. This review explores this excess risk and considers strategies for its prevention and treatment.

Key Words: diabetes mellitus • myocardial infarction • heart failure • management.
