NICE and hypertension — the judge's decision is final!The Surgery, Nevells Road, Letchworth, Herts, SG6 4TS, UK, kirbym{at}globalnet.co.uk On 28th June 2006 the National Institute for health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) announced their revised guidelines on the treatment of hypertension, which will have a major impact on prescribing practice.1 With the media excitement surrounding these new guidelines, there is also likely to be an influx of patients concerned about their current medication. This article explains the changes to the guidelines, the evidence behind them and discusses the implications for clinicians.
