Sildenafil citrate in the management of diabetic erectile dysfunctionDepartment of Urology, Good Hope Hospital, Rectory Road, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, B75 7RR, UK, ghac876762{at}aol.com The efficacy and safety of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in diabetic men have been investigated in randomised, placebo-controlled trials. In all trials and across all subgroups of patients, sildenafil was associated with improvements in erectile function compared with placebo and side-effects of treatment (mainly headache, flushing and dyspepsia) were mostly transient and mild-to-moderate. Sildenafil is, therefore, concluded to be an effective and well-tolerated treatment for ED in men with diabetes.
